Dr. Narong Kulnithet, Chairperson of the Ph.D. and Master’s Programs in Forensic Science at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University and Project Leader, inaugurated a Public Hearing to elevate consumer protection standards. This forum was conducted under the "Consultancy Project for Monitoring, Auditing, and Evaluating Key Issues in Consumer Protection (2nd Session, Fiscal Year 2025)."
The ceremony was presided over by General Sitthichai Makkoonchon, Member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC) for Consumer Protection. He was accompanied by a team of experts, academics, and project coordinators who shared visions, guidelines, and strategies for promoting and protecting consumer rights within the broadcasting, television, and telecommunications sectors amidst the digital transformation.
This session specifically focused on gathering feedback from stakeholders in Northern Thailand. The forum presented an overview of consumer protection in the digital era, addressing issues arising from telecommunications services, digital media, and public access to information. It also sought recommendations to develop consumer protection mechanisms that are tailored to the local context.
The forum brought together representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, civil society, and local residents from Chiang Mai and neighboring provinces. Participants engaged in extensive discussions, highlighting challenges and offering suggestions on various digital-age issues, including telecommunications, digital media, online scams, and ensuring equitable access to services for all citizens.
All feedback and suggestions gathered will be analyzed and synthesized to formulate policy recommendations. These insights will support relevant agencies in effectively addressing public needs, ultimately leading to a consumer protection system that is efficient, transparent, and sustainable.
